Hi, I’m Kim.
I write, design & draw.
I’m a writer, designer and artist living in Montréal, Canada. I have a Bachelor’s in Architecture from Cornell University and a Diploma in Environment from McGill University. After having taken a permaculture design certification course in 2008, I am also currently in the process of training as a permaculture designer.
In a broader sense beyond architecture, my work also focuses on issues of environmental, economic and social sustainability, permaculture, community-building and responsible design. Some interesting work experiences in the last few years include an earth architecture internship at a South Indian eco-village, learning the basics of treehouse-building, and writing for awesome eco-blog TreeHugger, a Discovery Communications company, recently named one of TIME’s top blogs. I’m also a first-time mom and occasionally write about my parenting follies over at TLC’s Parentables. You can read some featured pieces in the blog section, or check out my other works in my portfolio or my CV/résumé.
Artist Statement
Stemming from a training in architecture, my drawings are illustrative vignettes exploring the conscious and unconscious relationships we have with our built environment. These whimsical illustrations are visual re-interpretations of beloved or memorable places which give meaning to an otherwise anonymous city. My artwork poses the question whether spaces can be more than something that is merely moved through, but rather a shared, experiential consciousness.
Focusing on Montreal’s urban spaces, cultural life and other compelling urban mysteries, my work hopes to chart alternate realities that are always in the process of unfolding.
